Carla, a.k.a. Mother Hen, has become actively involved in the Appalachian Trail community after her husband, Henry, thru hiked the A.T. southbound in 1995. She corresponds with many hikers and thru hikers "to be" via the Internet and emails. She loves to hear all of the hiker trail stories. She has volunteered at the Appalachian Trail Conference for two one-week periods, has been to Trail Days and several ALDHA gatherings, and will have a picture she took at Gathland State Park in the 2000 AT Calendar. Carla's biggest thrill was to have had Earl Shaffer stay with them for an overnight when Earl was on his 1998 thru hike. Carla believes there is a lot a person can do to help the hikers and the hiking community without actually becoming a hiker on the Trail.
Carla can be reached by email at hrl@map.com
and would love to hear from you.
